Goshen lights new menorah
A crowd of over 70 people gathered last
week on the village green of Goshen,
where Mayor Scott Wohl (pictured right
with Rabbi Meir Borenstein) was given
the honor of lighting Goshen’s new
menorah because of his support of the
Jewish community of Goshen. The new
menorah was sponsored by Mr. S.
Fornino, who said, “I hope our children
can look with pride at the menorah here
in Goshen.” Everyone sang Hanukkah
songs and then partook of hot latkas
and hot chocolate afterward.

Jewish center comes to Goshen
By Pamela Chergotis
Goshen-Rabbi Meir Borenstein is continuing a family tradition. Like
his father before him, he is bringing a temple to a place with no
temples.
When Rabbi Borenstein was seven years old, the Lubavitcher Rebbe,
Rabbi Menachem M. Schneersohn, sent his American parents to
Bologna, Italy, to attend to the spiritual needs of that community's
5,000 Jews. Now, Rabbi Borenstein and his wife, Rivkie, have come to
Goshen with the same mission. They are members of Chabad, the
world's largest Jewish educational outreach organization, and are
committed to bringing together Jews of all backgrounds so that their
culture may live and thrive.

A Jew's obligation'
By Linda Keay
GOSHEN-Ronald Levy of Goshen went to the village square for the
menorah lighting Wednesday night. The menorah being right next to a
Christmas tree,"doesn't bother me a bit," he said.
Mayor Scott Wohl — described by Rabbi Meir Borenstein as "a very
dear friend of the Jewish community and entire community in Goshen"
— spoke some Hebrew words then lit the menorah. Rabbi Borenstein
said he hopes Wohl is the mayor of the village "for many, many more
years to come."
Wilma Baksh from Middletown said, "It's just nice to see a menorah
anyplace. We're from Middletown and we don't see them there."

Don't passover Passover
WARWICK-Shoprite in Chester, Monroe and Warwick will be bringing
Passover awareness to Orange County by opening its supermarket doors to
Rabbi Meir and Rivkie Borenstein for their model matzah bakery.
The program is one way many can prepare for the Passover holiday that
recalls and celebrates the liberation of the Jews in Egypt 3,000 years ago.
The model matzah bakery also offers children and adults alike the unique
experience of baking Matzah, the traditional food eaten on Passover.
A festival of Lights
Sugar Loaf’s first
Despite the rain and cold, more than 40
people gathered at the Lycian Center in
Sugar Loaf to celebrate the first day of
Hanukkah on Dec. 25. It was also the
first-ever public menorah lighting in
Sugar Loaf. “History is being made,”
said Rabbi Meir Borenstein of Goshen.
He thanked the Logothetis and Mindes
family, who inspired and helped
organize of the event. For more
